Alter Servers

Altar Servers

The Altar Server ministry is a sacred opportunity for young men of our parish to grow in their Orthodox faith by serving in the Holy Altar during Divine Liturgy and other services throughout the year.

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, altar servers assist the clergy during services in a variety of ways. They may carry the cross, candles, or liturgical fans in processions and entrances, help prepare the censer, and support the priest and deacon in their sacred duties. Altar servers represent the angels of God, who ceaselessly circle the heavenly altar in worship, as described by the Prophet Isaiah: “I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne... and above Him stood the seraphim… and one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts’” (Isaiah 6).

Serving in the altar fosters reverence, responsibility, and a deeper connection to the liturgical life of the Church. It is both an honor and a form of spiritual formation for the young men who participate.
