What to Expect When You Visit

Your First Visit to an Orthodox Church

If you are new to the Orthodox Church, you may notice that our worship looks and feels different from many other Christian traditions. Our services include ancient prayers, hymns, Scripture readings, and the celebration of Holy Communion.

Visitors are always welcome to attend and participate in worship.

Arriving at Church

Many people arrive early to experience the quiet beauty of the Orthros (Matins) service and prepare for the Divine Liturgy.

However, you are welcome to arrive at any time during the service.

Participating in the Service

Orthodox worship includes standing, bowing, and making the sign of the cross. Visitors are welcome to participate as they feel comfortable.

You may notice people lighting candles, venerating icons, or quietly praying before the service begins.

If you are unsure what to do, simply observe and follow along as you feel comfortable.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is offered to baptized Orthodox Christians who have prepared spiritually.

Visitors and non-Orthodox guests are still warmly welcome to participate in the service through prayer and worship.

At the end of the service, everyone is welcome to receive antidoron, a small piece of blessed bread.

After the Service

After Sunday services and some weekday services, all are invited to join us for Fellowship Hour, a time of fellowship where visitors can meet parishioners and ask questions. Your can also visit our Parish Bookstore on Sundays. It is an excellent resource for those exploring the Orthodox faith. Whether you're new or seeking to go deeper, our bookstore team is always happy to recommend reading and answer questions.
